About the blog
My name is Jens Kaalhauge Nielsen, I’m Associate Professor at Aarhus School of Business, University of Aarhus (ASB). I have a Ph.D in political science from Yale University. My intellectual interests have always been broadly oriented, including interests in philosophy, sociology, political science and economics. Also from early childhood I have been very interested in world history and the complexity and fate of civilizations. By launching this blog I want to facilitate a debate about the socio-economic development of the modern business world and the importance of culture for the dynamics of business life. The analytical framework of these issues will theoretically speaking be questions related to the issues on cognitive capital, culture and business systems. By the concept of cognitive capital, I wish to highlight how modern business can be analyzed as structures of learning processes and how this again links to the concept of “innovative society.” Some of the key topics I will like to explore in this blog are the socio-economic development in Asia with focus on China and India. I will attempt to offer some insights and interpretation of how we can understand the dynamic growth processes in China, India and other countries in Asia. I will like to focus on the complex interaction between cultural, political and economic systems in a effort to show the factors that determine societal dynamics and how these dynamics spill-over as opportunities in the business world. I will also like to discuss the socio-cultural development in China, India and other countries especially in an effort to show how the media, the internet and entertainment industry facilitate the scene for new types of civic interaction and how these trends is reflected in lifestyle, fashion and consumer-behavior.
